Stephan Klasen is considered one of the most distinguished scholars on gender economics in the 21st century. The fact that Stephan Klasen can always give a precise answer to very complicated or even complex questions inspired the idea for this book. We asked 50 development economists (and friends of Stephan) around the world to answer 50 (serious and not-so serious) questions about development research and policy. We were extremely impressed with everyone’s willingness to leave the comfort zone of academia and the safety of long-winded answers, by approaching what could be seen as big, complicated questions with short, sometimes witty, and frequently sincere responses.
