"This book aspires to address both professionals and academics and challenges them to develop a deeper discussion of and more systematic research into the international dimension; it can be recommended to a broad spectrum of those who represent multidisciplinary approaches to land management."
(Maroš Finka, DOI 10.1007/s13147-013-0232-0, Mai 2013)

"These essays and the rest of the contents of the book demonstrate that there are a number of common issues facing national and local governments across Europe in trying to achieve more sustainable forms of development. These include finding the spatial levels and planning tools with which to control of urban sprawl; balancing the imperative for environmental protection and energy efficiency against the necessity of maintaining a functioning and profitable development sector and the needs of communities for homes, employment and well-being.
These are all difficult questions and none of them appear for the first time in this book. Nevertheless, by looking across Europe, each of these essays adds something to our understanding of the socio-cultural and politicaleconomic context within which urban design and development has to take place."

SAPONI – Spaces and Projects of National Importance

Spatial Planning, Natural Monuments

Spaces and Projects of National Importance (SAPONI) are not only important for the respective spatial areas, they are also in the interest of the entire nation, and sometimes of European interest as well. Over a three years period a series of different symposia with high-level spatial planners from all over Europe had been focusing on these strategic spaces and projects. The book sums up the findings of these issues which can have "far-reaching consequences and chances that could be used – or they could be lost" like the leader of the workshop-series, Prof. Bernd Scholl, points out.
